Gaurav Banerjee was killed by a kite string in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. The kite string struck the boy’s neck slitting his nerves and leading to his instant death. Banerjee was riding a biking with a girl on the Yamuna Bridge in Allahabad, when a Chinese kite appeared from nowhere and the string glazed with powdered glass slit his neck.  The manja is the abrasive string used for fighter kites , to which is added a thick glue made by boiling rice or maida power, finely powdered glass and pink dye . The goal is to cut the string of your closest competitor. Most kites at this time are “fighting kites” which dance, dipping and rising with each subtle current of air around it. They are smaller and diamond shaped with a couple of simple pieces of bamboo as framing. The skill is in the steering of the kite and this comes from exerting quick pulls on the string to pull the nose of the kite in one direction or another during its movement. This precision interaction between person, paper, and an always shifting wind requires a near constant attentiveness and it is what gives the experienced kite enthusiast the freedom to move the kite and primarily the coated string to the desired spot, alongside the string of your competitor. In the kite dog fight, after some quick string tugs and then just one kite remains dancing, the other one released in a cathartic unfettering.

The girl also was seriously injured. The two were rushed to hospital but boy succumbed to his injuries. The family members demanded the kite strings to be banned.
