Extinction Rebellion environmental activists glued themselves to the main entrance of the London Stock Exchange on the group’s final day of  direct action in London. They caused maximum disruption by staging 11-day peaceful sit-ins at several city’s busiest thoroughfares, when over 1000 people have been arrested during the protests and more than 10, 000 police officers have been deployed.

In Amazon region alone the world’s largest rainforest which provides the world with 20 per cent of its required oxygen and plays a crucial role in stabilising global temperatures, as deforestation has grown steadily over the past ten years. In Xingu river basin the home to several indigenous tribes, 8, 500 hectares of rainforest were cut down in the first two months of 2019, a 55 per cent increase from last year.

Several top US and European companies, investment banks have been accused of aiding the destruction of the Amazon forest despite the threat from global warming. There is growing friction in Brazil, where President Jair Bolsonaro has pledged to open up areas of the Amazon region to commercial activity.
