ICONIC BATTERSEA POWER STATION IN LONDON SPAWNS EXHIBITION

Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station London.

An £8 billion scheme to create more than 1,000 new homes is currently being undertaken using the Battersea Power Station building which has been subject of many plans and projects over the years.  Equally exciting is that The Battersea Arts Centre is running an event featuring poetry, sculptures, and paintings as well as films all with reference to the iconic site.

Michael Warren is artist in residence at the site on the south bank of the Thames at Nine Elms and he will be taking part in the proceedings as well as architectural photographers given exclusive access to the site whilst under construction.

Battersea Power Station appeared on Pink Floyd’s Animals album in 1977 including an inflatable pig floating between its chimneys.

The site stopped generating electricity in 1983.  Prints and official art and merchandise will be on sale over the weekend.  Prices range from £2 to £10,000. 20% of the proceeds will go to locally run charities.

Friday to Sunday Lavender Hill – Battersea Arts Centre.  Free Admission.
