WhatsApp owned by Facebook, will stop working on several platforms from December 31, 2017, including BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older platforms according the spokesperson. “We will no longer actively develop for these platforms, and some features may stop functioning at any time”, as these platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. So if you are using one of these devices we recommend you to upgrade to newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 8+ or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you are able to continue using WhatsApp” WhatsApp said.

WhatsApp will not work on “Nokia S40” after December 2018.

WhatsApp, which has over a billion users worldwide, is forcing millions of people to upgrade their handsets because of changes in technology.

According a blog post the company said: “When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today. The Apple App store was only a few months old and about 70 per cent of smartphones sold at that time had operating systems offered by Blackberry and Nokia. Now Mobile operating systems offered by Apple, Google and Microsoft account for 99,5 per cent of sales today.
