Sixty firefighters and eight fire engines helped to tackle a major fire at Koko in Camden High Street, just before 21:00 GMT, as smoke and flames could be seen billowing from the scaffolding in the roof of KoJo which is currently under refurbishment and was due to reopen in spring.

According to fire brigade 30 per cent of the roof was alight and it was ”working hard” to save the rest of the building.. Although no injuries were reported, fire brigade warned people to stay away from the area.

Koko was previously known as the Camden Palace and Camden Hippodrome, and has been one of the most iconic music venues in London for decades.

Sir Keir Starmer, Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras tweeted “Awful news in Camden tonight “. Conservative Councillor for Hampstead Oliver Cooper tweeted that he was “devastated by the potential loss of such a huge part of Camden’s culture”.
