New Zealand rose to the top of the world Test rankings after they defeated Pakistan by an innings and 176 runs in the second Test to win the series 2-0.

Pakistan was dismissed for 186 on the fourth day, as Kyle Jamieson took 6-48 finishing 11 wickets in Christchurch, and was the series’ leading wicket-taker with 16. This is the first time New Zealand has topped the Test ranking as they have won six consecutive Test matches and have not lost a home Test since March 2017.

Twenty-six-year-old, 6ft 8ins tall, Jamieson made his debut against India in March and so far taken 36 wickets at 13.27, including four five-wicket hauls.

Captain Kane Williamson is the world’s top-ranked Test batsman while Neil Wagner and Tim Southee are third and fourth in the bowling rankings respectively.

After having two successive ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup finals, they have now climbed to the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings for the first time ever.  Their finest wins include a four-run win against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, November 2018, after being bundled for 153 in the first innings New Zealand fought back,  a 123-run win against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, in December 2018 after their shock defeat by an innings and 16 runs in the second test and four-run win in the opening test, an Innings and -49-run win against England in Auckland, March 2018, as Trent Boult and Tim  Southee exploited the swing on offer with the pink ball to bunder out the visitors for 58, Innings and-65-runs- win against Sri Lanka, in Colombo, in August 2019, after Trent Boult and Tim Southee took seven wickets between them using gentle swing to bowl out hosts for 244, and centuries by Tom Latham and BJ Watling put them on the winning streak, seven-wicket win against India in Christchurch in February-March 2020, with Kyle Jamieson playing his maiden series claiming 5-45 to help bowl out India for 242 and took the series 2-0.
