The Queen marks the 70th anniversary of her  reign and accession to the throne in 1952, has said  it was her “ sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort”. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is to be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes King, which paves way for her to be known as Queen Camilla in the future. The Queen’s personal endorsement follows her New Year announcement that Camila would become a member of the Order of the Garter- the highest order of Chivalry.

The Queen has become the first monarch in British history to have reached a Platinum Jubilee, saw 14 UK Prime Ministers, with 31 per cent of the British people saying they have seen or met her, 1.5 million people have attended one of her garden parties, and written 100, 000 letters in Jubilee years. The Queen still kept the promise of a lifetime of public duty, originally made in 1947, when she was 21 years old,” that my life will always be devoted to your service”. She reflected on how much she had gained from the support given to her ”unselfishly” by Prince Philip and thanked the goodwill shown to her by “all nationalities, faiths, and ages in this country”. The Queen said it was a day that “even after 70 years, I still remember as much for the death of my father, King George VI, as for the start of my reign”.

A Clarence House spokesman said the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were “touched and honoured”.

Charles and Camilla were both divorcees when they married in 2005 in a civil marriage. Charles had previously married to Princess Diana but they divorced in 1996, a year before she died in a car crash in Paris.
