Instagram is hiding the number of likes on posts in several countries, including Australia and Japan so that to remove pressures on users.

The trial begins on Thursday, as users will see a user name “ and others” below posts, instead of the number on their feed.

Instagrammers can still view the number of likes their own posts receive.

There is however, serious concern social media platforms can contribute to low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy.

Instagram has also launched similar trial in Canada in May and the new test is rolling out in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Brazil.

Instagram boss Adam Mosseri said “ Can’t solve bullying on its own”,  we doesn’t want people to get depressed on the platform, but we can’t stop people from saying nasty things.”

Adam Mosseri especially spoke about Selena Gomez’s recent comments on how Instagram made her feel depressed, how the platform deals with content like self-harm and nudity, the criticism the app receives and how Instagram is regulating itself.
