Malaysia has started in Hong Kong this week marketing and auctioning the $130m 300 feet yacht Equanimity, which features a helipad, gym, beach club. Sauna and beauty salon once owned by Jho Low, the financier alleged to be the architect of the 1 MDB scandal as part of their efforts to recover money.

Lim Guann Eng, Malaysia’s finance minister, criticised Goldman Sach’s apologt over its involvement in the scandal, saying it is meaningless unless the US bank paid $7.5bn in reparations.

Goldman Scahs is being sued of billions of dollars and criminally prosecuted in Malaysia for its alleged role in aiding and abetting 1MDB to raise $6.5bn in debt, much of it was allegedly stolen or paid in bribes.

Mr David Soloman CEO of Goldman pointed to the role of Tim Leissner a former senior partner in Goldman’s Asian operations, who has pleaded guilty to participating in the fraud and said “ For Leissner’s role in that fraud we apologise to the Malaysian people.”

Lim said that by saying the Malaysian people were cheated by top government officials, Mr Solomon implied the banks was “ hand in hand” with them. “ There has to be accountability, it also involves breach of fiduciary duty”.

He also questioned if the bank would have apologised to Malaysians had Mahathir Mohamad not ousted Najib Razak, former prime minister  and founder of 1MDB, in elections last year.
