Farnborough Airshow has certainly been a popular attraction for visitors with spectacular flying displays from Red Arrows.

Ever since Concorde retired 15 years ago, three US firms Boom Supersonic, Aerion Supersonic and Spike Aerospace are racing to be the first to slash travel times across the globe, with passenger jets travelling faster than Mach 1 – the sped of sound (761mph or 1225km/h at sea level).

According to Boom Supersonic, CEO and founder who is building a delta-winged airliner carrying 55 passengers at speed up to Mach 22 (1451mph, 23356km/h).“

what we are seeing now is a renaissance in entrepreneurship in aerospace”. Sonic Boom will be “30 times quieter than Concorde”. The first commercial airline planned for 2025.
