The crush which killed 154 people, 56 men, 97 women, and 19 teenagers, and injured 90, began in a narrow alley when around 100, 000 people attending the first outdoor no-mask Halloween event since the pandemic, fell over in Itaewon in central Seoul, South Korea’s capital, popular for its vibrant nightlife on Saturday night. 19 foreign nationals are among the dead according to emergency services, as police were struggling to control the crowds of revellers. Several survivors struggle to breathe as their bodies are pressed up against one another.

Many of the narrow alleys and winding streets are lined with bars, shops, and restaurants serving food from around the world.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the district where the crush happened and ordered an investigation and a task force to help the injured.
