Raffles and Singapore Sling
The original Singapore Sling was invented at the Raffles Hotel Singapore over 104 years ago by Hainanese bartender Ngiam Tong Boom, when the etiquette dictated that Ladies could not consume alcohol in public. Cad’s Alley as first lovated at the main hotel entrance where tables were strategically placed next to one another, so that male visitors used this as a vantage point to survey the procession of the ladies. This inspired Ngian and Singapore Sling was created to resemble a fruit punch masking it with a pink rosy hue and contains Widges London Dry Gin, Benedictine. Luxardo Cherry Sangue Morlacco, Ferrand Dry Curacao, Raffles signature Grenadine, Pineapple juice, Fresh Lime juice, Angostura Bitters. Inspired by Malaysian plantain life in the 1920s Long Bar recollects memories from the tropical plantation with its deep colours and Punkah Wallah ceiling fans of the British Empire. 2
Raffles Singapore named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore was opened on 1 December 1887, with a 10-room seaside bunglow run by American Sarkies brothers. Raffles attracts movie stars, politicians, journalist from all over the world and stands as a testament to Singapore’s transition from a British outpost into an iconic global port.
