5 killed in plane crash at Mumbai
A chartered plane (VT-UPZ)Beechcraft King Air C90 twin-turboprop belonging to Mumbai-based company U Y Aviation Pvt Ltd, crashed next to a building called Jagruti under construction, near Sarvodaya Nagar in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, India on 27th June 2018 Thursday afternoon around 8.00 am BST 1.30pm IST. According to images on Twitter, flames and thick black plumes of smoke was seen rising from the wreckage.
The aircraft owned by Deepak Kothari the plane earlier owned by the Uttar Pradesh government. The plane took from the Juhu airport for a test flight. Investigators DGCA is probing into the causes of the accident. The aircraft reportedly developed an engine snag after which the pilots ensure it does not hit any residential building. According to former Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, many lives were saved due to quick thinking by the pilot onboard the aircraft who avoided the heavily populated residential area.
Several fire engines rushed to the scene. Four occupants including two pilots, two aircraft maintenance engineers of the ill-fated aircraft died on the spot and also a pedestrian.
