50 years of the Beatles’ famous album cover of Abbey Road
Hundreds of people gathered at the famous Abbey Road pedestrian crossing outside the EMI recording studios in London today. On August 8th 1969, one of the most-copied events in pop music history occurred, as The Beatles- John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison gathered for a brief photoshoot outside the EMI studios in London, where the band were working.
Photographer Iain Macmillan took a modest shot of the musicians on a zebra crossing on the B507 Abbey Road, an image which would was chosen as the cover of the band’s Abbey Road album. The cover image had been parodied on several occasions including by McCartney on his 1983 live album Paul Is Live. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers The Abbey Road EP.
