6.9 magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar
A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has struck Myanmar’s capital Naypuidaw, formerly known as Burma, 84miles (135km) north-west of Mandalay according to the US Geographical Survey reports, with tremors in India, Bangladesh and China.
The tremor could be felt in Assam, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are staying at Kaziranga National Park.
Tremors were also felt in parts of Kolkata, Guwahati capital of Assam, Patna, Bhubaneswar and Delhi. There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage to properties.
A similar earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude hit north-east India in January 2016, near its borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh killing nine people.
