6 fireman injure in Natural History museum fire in Delhi
A blaze which started on the sixth floor of the National Museum of Natural History in the early hours of Tuesday 26th April 2016, spread rapidly to the entire seven floors, as more than 35 fire engines were called to tackle the fire. Six firemen were injured. Large plumes of smoke emanating from the top floor of the FICCI building where the museum is housed, at 1:45am when the building was empty.
The 38-year old museum in the heart of the City which houses some very old species of flora and fauna, frogs, snakes, lizards, and herpetological specimens preserved butterflies and mounted specimens of tigers and leopards were completely gutted.
Early reports from a fire office state that the fire safety systems were not working, which is why it took so long to douse the fire.
The museum has been criticised for “being badly designed and poorly maintained.”
