800 feared dead in Nepal Earthquake 7.9 Richter scale
800 people are reported to have died and several thousands trapped in the rubble, in a powerful earthquake measured 7.9 in the Richter scale, struck between Nepal capital Kathmandu and city of Pokhara at 06:11:25:80 UTC on 25 April 2015.
Termors were felt across the region as far afield as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Delhi,NCR, Bihar, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati and West Bengal in India. There had been catastrophic damages at the epicentre of the earth quake and this event is constantly reviewed by seismologists.
Kathmandu’s iconic Bhimsen Tower a nine storey bulit in 1832, a popular tourist attraction has collapsed raising fears of substantial loss of life and property. Bhimsen Tower with a spiral staircase, there is a observing deck on the 8th floor which overlooks the Kathmandu valley which was destroyed twice earlier during earthquakes in 1834 and in 1934.
Among those wrecked was the landmark Dharahara tower, with many feared trapped in its ruins.
After the earthquake struck, concerned residents came out into the streets. Mobile phones and other communications have been disrupted.
There are also reports of damage to the International airport in the capital and is closed.
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and are not equipped to cope with such major disaster.
