Aston Martin to build DBX in Wales and create 750 jobs
Aston Martin is to build the DBX concept car at St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales, creating 750 highly skilled jobs. It will include a skills academy, the works on the factors will start in 2017 and production will start three years later.
Aston Martin in its 103-year history, has sold 70,000 cars and will keep its headquarters and factory at Gaydon in Warwickshire. The proposed car is an all-electric 4X4 expected to cost at least £160,000 to buy was unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor show.
Dr Andy Palmer the new Aston Martin CEO said “perhaps a world not too far away, when luxury GT travel will be stylish, practical, more family friendly and environmentally responsible”.
Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb said the announcement an “enormous boost and economic success” for Wales and the British car industry It is genuine example of a ‘one nation’ achievement, with both the UK and Welsh governments working together to attract this prestige manufacturer to Welsh shores”.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart AM said” The important thing for us was ensuring that Aston Martin stayed in the UK. This is win not just for Wales but for UK.”
When you think of Aston Martin you think of James Bond, adventure, glamorous women and a sense of cool and will be part of Wales from 2020.
There are already 150 companies in Wales making car components using 18,000 work force with a combined turnover of £3.3bn, as they make parts for Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Ford and Honda.
