999 Emergency Test Set up as “Tower Block Collapses into Tube”
The biggest disaster test scenario ever run in Europe was staged in London. Titled “Exercise Untitled Response” it simulated the collapsing of a tower block into Waterloo Underground station. The 4 day Exercise Unified Response is designed to test the contingency planning of more than 70 organisations, including police, London Ambulance Service, councils, mortuaries and the Government’s Cobra committee. The drill is being staged at Littlebrook power station near Dartford. 1,000 actors played casualty victims amidst tons of rubble. 100 firemen and 15 fire engines are also involved.
A mock tube station and 7 carriages are involved with 600 “Injured” people. Victim identification teams are part of in the test. Leading survivors to safety is of tan integral exercise. Pathologists and forensic dentist work is involved in the operation.
The £70,000 exercise was funded by the EU -officers from Interpol and police from the EU countries were involved.
Tubes are “the worst place possible” to rescue people from said London Fire Brigade commissioner Ron Dobson. This is why this operation is so important.
