Monica Puig Marchan from Puerto Rico made history after the Puerto Rican stuns German World no 2 Angelique Kerber in the Women’s singles final 6-4, 6-1.
Monica was leading 5-1 and have to serve to win Olympic gold, but was down 0-40, came back to set up two match points, and on the second, Kerber got a lucky net cord which dropped just over, and still Kerber couldn’t make it count. Finally Monica makes history by beating Kerber.
She defeated Polona Hercog, Garbine Muguruza, Laura Siegemund and Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova in the semi-final at the Olympic stadium. Petra Kvitova beat Madison Keys US in the Bronze medal match.
