Multi-nationals eyeing up prospective pet food growth in India which could double in 5 years
India has opened its first-ever six-floor, 12, 000 sq feet, five-star hotel for pets. Pet owners will be required to fill in a form giving the personality and vaccination details of their pet and are offered an “access card” valid for three months.
Critterati hotel pampers pooches everything from a room for the night to a swimming pool, a salon and a television room where they canine can watch silent cartoons of dogs chasing cats, was opened in November 2017 in Gurugram’s DLF Phase IV, Delhi, India. Room rates now shot up to from £40 a night.
Deepak Chawla, the mastermind behind this unique ides, says, “ I have been wanting to do something with dogs for a long time, having had them since I was a kid, as India was experiencing a pet ownership boom with sales of pet care products growing in excess of 12 per cent every year as the total sales hit £207.29m in India last year a leap from £70.49m in 2012.
Multinational Nestle which sells Purina products under the brand name Supercoat and Mars which sells Pedigree dog food in India, Farmina, offering gluten-free and free from genetic modification pet foods and domestic Broiler group which sells pet food under Drools have all stiffened the competition.
Nestle, estimates there are about 19m pets in India up from 7m in 2006, as lifestyles and rising incomes accounted for this.
