Rafael Nadal,33, is the first player to win 12 singles titles at the same Grand Slam and has now won 18 majors overall, but played just three events in 2019 prior to the clay-court season.
Nadal beat Austrian fourth seed Dominic Thiem with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in Sunday’s final at Roland Garros.
World number two Nafal has been hampered by injury problem over the past two seasons, pulling out of 10 tournaments last year with a combination of hip, knee and ankle problems.
