Beijing’s airport with new starfish-shape completed to open in September
Beijing’ second international airport shaped like a starfish has been completed after five years of construction. The new airport will be able to handle 72 million passengers a year by 2025, and 100 million by 2040. The building was designed by Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, who died in 2016.
Vijay Mallya get permission to appeal against extradition order
Vijay Mallya had been granted permission by a London court to appeal the UK’s decision to extradite him to India. The Beijing Daxing International Airport is located in the south of the capital and will be the world’s largest single-terminal airport, with a total investment of about US $17.47 billion ( 120 billion Yuan).
The airport with golden terminal spans 700, 000 square meters ( 7.5 million sq ft) though it is designed to keep waling to a minimum.
In the long run it will be able to accommodate 880, 000 flights and 100 million passengers per year.
Located 46 km south of Beijing’s centre, 55kim from Xiongan New Area economic zone and 80 km from Tianjin and will connect intercity with high-speed rail services and three subway lines.
Airlines plans to move services from Beijing’s two other airports, China Southern Airlines will transfer 13 routes and 28 flights to the new airport by October 27 and United Airlines will transfer more than 60 flights and 4, 000 workers in winter, while China Eastern Airlines plans to move all of its flights to Daxing next summer, apart from 46 daily services between Beijing and Shanghai.
