New Zealand wins the first test in the last hour thriller. The tourists began 71-3 needing to either save the test by batting out the day or score 373 to win, as efforts of Fawad Alam who hit 102 from 269 balls, a six-hour knock was in vain. Although last pair Naseem and Shaheen Afridi survived seven overs in fading light before Santner finally took the wicket catching Naseem’s miscued drive above his head. New Zealand is aiming to go second in the World Test Championship table if they win the series 2-0 or draw the second test which starts on 2nd January.
New Zealand secured a final-hour victory in the first Test against Pakistan and boosted their hopes of making the World Test Championship final.
