Pakistan win the second Test by 95 runs in Rawalpindi and secured a first 2-0 series win against South Africa since 2003.
Hasan Ali’s match-winning ten-wicket haul topped stubborn resistance from two South Africans Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma. Hasan triggered a South Africa collapse with the second new ball that saw South Africa lose seven wickets for 33 runs. South Africa lost the first test in Karachi by seven wickets. Markram’s fifth Test century as well as his first since March 2018 and the first in the subcontinent, proved in vain.
South Africa has now lost four of their last five series and ten of their last 13 Tests and going to have an extended break from the longest format with no games for the rest of the summer following Australia’s decision to postpone indefinitely a proposed series in March. South Africa’s poor shot selection led to their collapse which remains a concern for them as they have lost 5 for 37 in the first innings and 7 for 87 in the second and nine for 70 in Karachi.
Hasan beat van der Dussen’s inside edge with a late swing to end a 94-run second-wicket partnership with Markram and gave Pakistan an early breakthrough on final morning. Two hours later, Hasan had du Plessis trapped lbw with an incoming delivery that stayed low.
England bowled out for 178 with India needing 420 to win or bat for just over a day.
