Peloton recalled its 126, 000 Tread+ and Tread Treadmills on Wednesday after the company admitted it was wrong to fight the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that it do so.

The CPSC said that there has been one child died and 70 other injuries tied to the Peloton treadmills, although when the federal safety agency issued a warning about the dangers in April and warned people with kids and pets to immediately stop using the $4, 000 Peloton running machine Peloton refused to recall them.

“I want to be clear Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the CPSC’s request, we should have engaged more productively with them in April, from the outset. For that I apologise”, John  Foley, CEO of Peloton said.

Cary Kelly who was not wearing the security clip said she fell facedown on the Tread+ in May 2019, becoming trapped between a wall and the machine and leaving her with burns and bone fractures.

Shares of Peloton plummeted down 8 per cent on the news.
