12 dead and thousands evacuated in China after flood
Dozens of cities in Henan Province in central China including is provincial capital Zhengzhou, home to 94 million people affected by record-breaking rainfall have left 12 dead and more than 100, 000 evacuated from their homes, with people wading in chest high levels of water on roads and train stations. The local authorities have issues flood warning once in 100 year event.
By Tuesday night, Zhengzhou and other places in Henan province saw widespread spreading with reports of people being swept away by fast-moving flood waters, and cars, debris drifting down submerged streets. Several dams and reservoirs have breached warning levels, and soldiers have been mobilised to divert rivers which have burst their banks, flights and trains in many parts have been suspended.
Over 700 passengers have been trapped in a train for at least 40 hours according to local media reports. The hospital of Zhengzhou also lost power on Tuesday for a short time which has now been restored. 600 critically ill patient shad been transferred to another nearly hospital.
President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that “flood prevention situation was very severe” and at a “critical stage with significant loss of life and property”

Flood crashed through a subway station in China on Tuesday, with desperate passengers trapped helplessly trying to flee. Some passengers can be seen standing on chairs and clinging to ceiling as floodwater submerged them. About an hour the train carriage was plunged ingo darkness and with very limited oxygen levels passengers were struggling for survival.
At least 12 are known to have died and five were injured in the subway disaster. Trapped in the darkness as floodwaters started rising around their chests, the passengers on a busy underground train in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou struggled to esxape.
In Henan, 33 people have died and more than 200, 000 have been evacuated.
A 20 metre (65 feet) breach has emerged in the dam in Luoyang city after it was damaged by storms. Zhengzhou saw 624mm of rainfall on Tuesday, with a third of the amount between 1^:00 and 17>00 alone.
