Elon Musk says he would reverse Twitter’s ban on Donald Trump
Elon Musk said that if he closes Twitter buy, he would reverse the permanent ban and let former President Donald J. Trump back into the social network, undoing the social network’s decision after Mr. Trump’s tweets about the riots at the US Capital last year.
Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO who is soon to own Twitter, said it was a mistake for the website to ban the former President. “ I think it was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme. I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake … It alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice”. Musk wanted Twitter to be an open forum – unfettered by moderation- on social media. He has seized on the platform’s importance to democracy and global debate and criticized what he has described as a left-wing bias in moderation decisions.
However, Trump has no plans to rejoin Twitter and has not talked to Musk. If Trump did rejoin twitter, he would instantly depress the value of his company’s recently launched Twitter clone, Truth social, which he is still eager to reap financial benefits.
