UK End of life care simply the best in the world

The quality of improving end of life care which should be provided by the health and social care to all adults approaching the end of life irrespective of financial status. The latest report by Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked UK scored 93.9 per cent, as the best in the world for End-of-Life care, praising the quality and availability of services.

The study of 80 countries said thanks to the NHs and Hospice movement the care provided was world class.

Rich nations, naturally performed the best care with Australia second, New Zealand third, Ireland fourth, Belgium fifth, Taiwan sixth, Germany seventh, Netherlands eight, US ninth, France tenth. Iraq and Bangladesh finished at the bottom. While India ranked 67^th did not do enough and China ranked 71^st is among the bottom ten and their performance is of particular concern given the impact of one child policy, often leaving individuals caring for two parents and four grandparents, will lead to even more demand for extra resources to provide support and adequate care including symptom control, communication, planning. Both Mongolia ranked 28^th and Uganda 35^th did manage to improve access to pain control through a public private partnership and also invested in hospice facilities.

Only 34 out of 80 countries provided a good end-of-life care for 15 per cent of the poorest adult population.
