Freedom 251 Cheapest mobile phone in the world
Ringing bells an Indian mobile company has launched a smartphone that cost Just Rs250.00 £2.50, saying its mission is to give citizens in rural and semi-urban areas access to digital technology, targeting a potential customer of half a billion people. India also produced the Tata Nano, the cheapest car in the world £1000.
The Freedom 251 phone has a four-inch screen and runs Android Lillipop software and has 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 8GB of memory, which can be expanded to 32GB with both back and front camera. A Women’s safety app is pre-loaded and apps aimed farmers, fishermen and an app providing medical emergency assistance to elderly. Ringing Bells even offers one-year warranty and has more than 650 service centres across India.
India is the second largest mobile market in the world after China, but only 19 per cent of the population are on the internet.
