Adam breaks the world record and wins first gold for Team GB
Great Britain won their first Gold medal of Rio 2016 as 21-year-old, Adam Peaty won gold for the men’s 100m breaststroke with a world record. Uttoxeter born broke his own world record by winning in 57.13 seconds, 1.5 seconds clear of his nearest rival, and became the first British man to win an Olympic swimming gold medal since Adrian Moorhouse, who won the same event in Seoul in 1988. London 2012 champion Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa took silver and Cody Miller won Bronze for the USA.
Welsh swimmer Jazz Carlin won silver in the women’s 400m freestyle soon after.
