Voice powered device Alexa is checking into your hotel room. The Seattle based technology group is partnering with Marriott International, the world’s largest hotel operator, to launch Alexa for Hospitality, which will allow guest to order room service, request housekeeping, spa treatments, play music and adjust the temperature, curtains and lighting in their rooms, and even the weather outside all by talking to an Alexa-powered speaker.

Marriott has been testing devices from Apple Siri and Amazon to add voice controls to hotel rooms around the world.

Marriott will now put Alexa devices with the new features in Marriott, Westin, St Regis, Aloft and Autograph Collection properties and by holiday rental provider  RedAwning and hotel operator Two Roads Hospitality in the US.

Tracy Schroeder, Marriott’s vice president of Global consumer public relations said: “We have recognised that voice-first experience has become an increasingly important channel for our guests, and we think Amazon is leading the market in this technology”.

Amazon has two-thirds of the consumer smart speaker market, according to eMarketer sources.

Amazon previously announced 18 months ago, that they would equip over 4000 room sat Wynn Las Vegas with the Echo so that the high rollers can now use separate devices in the living room and the master bedroom of the casino’s suites.

Alexa for Hospitality designed to bring its voice assistant technology  including key guest information, checkout time, pool hours and to everything from chain hotels to vacation rentals.
