Art Show in Chelsea displays new and innovative works
On the first floor of the library – adjacent to Chelsea Town Hall on the Kings Road, is this free exhibition which runs until November 5. It is well worth a visit and you may also want to buy an artwork there as the standard is exceptional.
The first artwork displayed in this article is by Ewa Morawski, born in Poland, resident in UK since 1981. She studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design and is interested in machine embroidery and has worked in fashion. Inspired by nature, she has travelled worldwide and experiments with various art techniques combining drawing skills and fusion and manipulation of mixed media. the trees in her work symbolises to the cycle of life. She also has a number of fashion accessories in the show including the use of poppies in her stunning “costume jewellery” designs.
The second artwork is by Vladimir Dirsh originally from Yalta, who came to UK in 1948 and worked as a microbiologist before founding the Neo-Constructive art association. His inspirations relate to early 20th century art, Bauhaus and Russian Revolutionary abstracts. Scientific imagery and theoretical developments in physics also feature in his creative work. His work alludes to that of the futuristic fine lady artist Klint who was exhibited in The Serpentine gallery Hyde Park earlier this year.
The third artwork – a conceptual piece is “Mali’s Book Delivery”. Mali came to UK from Mumbai in 1962 and since then has had 200 group shows and 28 solo shows. His influences include Magritte and Dali and his style is individual and avant garde. Some of his work features Mae West’s lips in a limited edition series shaped out of the pages of a book with plastic ants carrying the book. Mali makes some conceptual art and included in the exhibition is also photographs of ladies with Tattoos, one of Mali’s current themes. He believes in knowledge over ignorance and likes various mediums but loves photography at present. He recently exhibited in the Babylon Gallery in Cambridge from June 15 to July 5. Before coming to UK Mali studied art in Mumbai – then known as Bombay for seven years. Mali is a popular figure in the art world and knows a lot about the subject, also being a collector.
Try and see the first floor show if you can. If not, watch this space as there will be more on Mali very soon!!
