Asian Killer Hornets may be coming back to the UK
Asian killer hornets may be on their way back to the UK. The scientific name for them is Vespa Mandarinia. Their venom destroys red blood cells causing kidney failure and they can also cause death. Described by one writer as looking like “the wasp analog of a pit bull”, the killer hornets also kill bees and feed their young partly on eggs from other insects. In autumn 2013 killer hornets caused more than 42 deaths in China and injured 1,500 people. A popular British daily tabloid – the Daily Star today announced they might come back to Britain. Rest assured they are quite rare but they can be identified by their extra large size and there is a picture of a killer hornet above.
