Batmobile rescued in Euston ~London
The iconic Batmobile, used in 1966-1968 live action television show and its film adaptation, a one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car created by Ford Motor Company, was a customised, armoured fighting motor vehicle, Gadget-laden, frequently used by the DC comics superhero Batman for vehicular hot pursuit, anti-tank warfare and riot control, usually kept in Batcave driven through hidden cave entrance. The vehicle reportedly costed £162, 500 US $ 250,000 which went to £ 1.32million, US $ 2million in 2009. In Nov 2012, Barris Justom and George Barris announced the sale of Batmobile at the Barrett-Jackson car show and auction held in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the vehicle fetched £2.73million, US $ 4.2million on January 19, 2013.
The Batmobile first appeared in Detective comics on May 1939 which was then a red sedan. This modern day sleek machine customised and most technologically advanced crime fighting asset within Batman’s arsenal.
The car’s design included a large, dark-colored body bat-like accessories, with 126 inches Wheelbase, 226inches in length, 90 inches in width and 48 inches in height, including 84 inches large tailfins scalloped to resemble a bat’s wings, with 390inches Ford FE V-8 engine, and B&M C-6 Automatic 2nd Transmission).
The gadgets included a nose-mounted aluminum Cable cutter blade, Bat ray projector, Anti-Theft device, Detect-a-scope, Batscope, Bat Eye Switch, Antenna Activator, Police Band cut-in Switch, Automatic tyre inflation device, remote batcomputer-radio linked to the main Batcomputer in Batcave, the Batphone, Emergency Bat Turn Lever, Anti-fire activator, Bat smoke, Bat Photoscope and many other gadgets. In Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the Batmobile has been modified into a tank-like armoured riot control vehicle, complete with machine guns shooting rubber bullets, a large cannon mounted on the front, a large tank treads in place of tires.
