Battersea Power Station development bans chains in their £9bn “village”.
Bosses in charge of the new developments at Battersea Power Station say “clone” chains will not be welcome as they want to create something real, not a large shopping mall – like many others. Within the £9billion development its Malaysian owners intend to create a “village” feel to serve the estimated 25,000 people who will eventually live and work there.
Chief executive of the Battersea Power Station Development Company advised a number of chains had approached him and that he had turned down their questions about taking space there. Rob Tincknell said, “We have put together a mix of local shops, restaurants and social amenities that will give Circus West “a distinctive neighbourhood feel”. Circus West includes the ground floor units in the scheme.
There will be a shop for one of London’s oldest butchers Allens, which was formerly located in Mayfair, a new branch of Lewisham-based Flour Power City Bakery, a fifth pub in the Darwin and Wallace group, a first standalone outlet for Selfridges based florist Philippa Craddock, a fourth outlet for The CoffeeWorks Project, and a new salon for Knightsbridge-based hair stylist Paul Edmonds.
There has been a “real meeting of minds” amongst developers regarding the prospect of making this a truly enjoyable and unique location to live and work.
