Belgium beats Japan qualify for quarter finals
Mon 02 Jul 2018, World Cup Football round of 16
Japan 2 Belgium 3
Belgium came from two goals down to score a last-minute winner and beat Japan 3-2 in the World Cup last 16.
Haraguchi (48’), Inui (52’) Vertonghen (69’), Fellaini (74’) Chadli (90’+4)
Genki Haraguchi angles shot past Courtois and Inui shoots in from 20 yards.
Japan need to keep their foot on the pedal and keep on attacking as Belgium are now vulnerable.
As Japan fails to clear a corner properly as Inui’s punt rises high and Jan Vertonghen is wide on the left of the box, around 18 yards from the goal and somehow his header loops over Kawashima and into the far corner of the net at the 69th minute for Belgium.
Marouane Fellaini equalises as Hazard does superbly as De Bruyne finds him on the left and he twists and crosses brilliantly with his left foot.
Courtois rolls it to De Bruyne, who runs 50 yards and passes to Meunier and Lukaku’s dummy finds Nacer Chadli at the back post to turn into the empty net an absolutely stunning move from one end of the pitch to the other.
Belgium play Brazil in quarter final 19:00 BST Friday.
