England clinch the first test against New Zealand after Ben Stokes and Broad takes 3 wickets a piece. Earlier Alistar Cook top scored 162 off 345, 17 fours, enabled England to post 478, overturning a 134 first innings deficit.
Alistar Cook who needs another 30 runs, must wait till second test match at Headingly, Leeds, this Friday to beat Graham Gooch’s batting record. Action all rounder Ben Stokes, fastest 1o1, and 38-3, featured very much in England Victory. Trent Boult polished off England second innings by taking all the remaining four wicket for 9 runs. He ended up a five wicket haul for 85 runs. James Anderson must wait to become the first Englishman to 400 wickets.
New Zealand were 0-2 after 3 balls as both Martin Gupdtill and Tom Latham were dismissed for duck.
Ben Stokes took the wickets of Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum in successive deliveries. Williamson scooped a low catch to gully off the back foot and then McCullum was bowled first ball off thigh pad and bat by an excellent ball that nipped back the slope. New Zealand lost the first test despite stiff resistance from Corey Anderson 67 off 87 and BJ Walting 59 off 146. This test recorded the highest ever test score in history at Lord’s with 1610 runs.
