Boeing fires CEO Dennis
Dennis Mullenburg CEO of Boeing has been replaced after he repeatedly failed to gain control of the crisis that followed the fatal crashes of two of its 737 MAX jets.
Mr David Calhoun a board director for the past decade who replaced Mr Mullenburg as chairman two months ago, will take the helm from mid-January, attempting the task of restoring the confidence of regulators, politicians and airline customers and most importantly passengers.
Lawrence Kellner the former CEO of Continental Airlines, who has been a Boeing director since 2011, will replace Mr Calhoun as chairman.
The decision to remove Mr Mullenberg was made in a board call on Sunday and followed a public rebuke this month from the US aviation regulator of his “unrealistic” forecasts foe getting the Max flying again.
Boeing , a week earlier said it would halt production at its 12, 000 strong Renton plant near Seattle, sending tremors through the supply chain of the biggest US exporter.
Shares in Boeing were up about 3 per cent to aout $337 by lunchtime trading in New York following the announcement compared to a 12-month low of about $292.
Mr Mullenberg an engineer has been criticised for a faltering and defensive response to the crashes that killed 3456 people.
