Boris Johnson hailed the new dawn after historic victory and has promised to deliver Brexit and repay the trust of the voters in the General election. The Conservative Party’s Commons majority is its largest since Margaret Thatcher won a third term in 1987.
The prime minister met the Queen to ask to form a new government – has a House of Commons majority of 79, with one seat yet to be declared.
He said he would work “flat out” and lead a “people’s government “. He further hopes his party’s extraordinary win will bring closure to the Brexit debate and let the healing begin.
In a Daily Mail interview he said ” It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog”.Yet his ability to connect with people to make them feel good about themselves and about him has turned out to be a gift which carried him to Downing Street. He was born Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson on 19 June 1964.
“Labour who could muster only 203 seats as they lost 59 seats. Jeremy Corbyn said he would not fight another election as Labour leader and was “very sad” about the result adding that he received “more personal abuse” from the media during the campaign than any previous prime ministerial candidate.
Labour was swept aside by the Conservatives in its traditional heartlands in the Midlands and north-west
Liberal Dem Leader JO Swinson to step down after she lost her seat to the SNP by 149 votes. News of Ms Swinson’s defeat was cheered by Nicola Sturgeon, who was caught on camera celebrating the SNP’s victory in Dunbartonshire East.
Sinn Fein has seven MPs, Plaid Cymru four and the SDLP has two. The Green Party and Alliance Party have one each.
Boris Johnson will promise 109 new Conservative MPs that the government will start pouring cash into parts of Britain that had never previously voted Tory, and push ahead with Brexit immediately.
The chancellor is about to fund the £39bn @ Northern Powerhouse rails ” project linking big cities of the north, and the “Midlands Engine” project which aims to improve transport, skills and training in the country’s industrial heartland.
The legislation will be included requiring the government to meet its own promise to have a £33.9bn per annum increase in the NHS budget by 2023-24, as health was one of the main issues in the election.
