One of Boris Johnson’s two flaxen haired siblings has had their say about the EU – in or out. Jo Johnson said that science and technology firms would face a “decade of uncertainty” if we leave the EU.

Jo says a Brexit would be a “leap in the dark” and while at a talk in Cambridge observed  our status as a science superpower would be affected  if we left the EU.

More than 1,500 companies employ 60,000 people and this is Cambridge’s position as “the most successful innovative cluster in Europe”. Jo Johnson states this as well as warning that competitors will not hang around during a decade of uncertainty that might follow a vote for Brexit. If we stay secure in the EU opportunities will be seized to win new investment and build new research links.  All this at a time when the world economy remains extremely fragile.

He comments that he thinks those who want to leave the EU need to explain how they will sustain the same levels of investment and the same depth of partnership.

Jo Johnson is the Minister of State for Universities and Science and is also member of parliament for Orpington.  He is the younger brother of Boris Johnson and the two brothers have a sister Rachel who edits on The Mail stable of newspapers.
