British mum dead after butt lift operation
Ronilza Johnson 46, from Britain, has died in hospital after a Brazilian botched bum lift operation which costt her £1, 194 believed to have been injected with polymethyl methacrylate – known as PMMA, the plastic compound resin which is also used to make shatterproof windows.
It can cause blood clots or infections if accidentally injected into a vein, as Ms. Johnson’s open wounds became infected. Before her death, the mum-of-one called police to report the suspect’s biomedical scientist Lucas Santana and his assistant Thierry Cardoso, a Bolivian medical student.
Ms. Johnson lived in England and was visiting her father in Annapolis, Brazil, where her friends recommended the operation and surgery to her nose.
Health officials immediately closed down Santana’s unlicensed clinic and seized products.
Leah Cambridge (29), a mother of three, also died after undergoing a controversial botched Brazilian butt lift costing £6, 500, in October 2018, performed by a Turkish surgeon at the Can Hastanesi Hospital. Ms. Cambridge who felt paranoid about her body died of a pulmonary embolism after Dr. Uckan accidentally injected fat into her veins during the operation. British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) warned its members not to perform the procedure until further information about the risks become available. It is a matter of life and death when you are doing it.
