The new King Charles III swears an oath as he formally takes up his new role in a historic meeting at St James’s Palace.

King Charles III says he will dedicate “what remains of my life“ to his new role as King while making his declaration to the Accession Council. King Charles III has approved an order that the day of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday.
A second proclamation will be read in the City of London at the Royal Exchange at 12.
The House of Commons will sit to allow MPs to take the Oath Of Allegiance to King Charles III at 1 pm.
The Garter of Arms takes to the balcony of St James’s Palace to formally declare Charles III the new King.
Tomorrow, the Queen’s coffin will be taken from Balmoral to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Princess Anne will travel with it.
The Queen will lie in state for four days beforehand and mourners will be able to pay their respects.
The Queen’s funeral will be held in Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September.
