Chile earthquake kills 5
An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.3 hit off the cost Chile on 16th September 2015, killing 5 people and a tsunami warning for Chile, Peru and French Polynesia.
Waves over a meter triggered by the earthquake have begun hitting Chile’s coastline, flooding the streets near the ocean. Tsunami waves of up 3metres could hit French Polynesia.
Tsunami warning have been issue to residents in New Zealand 6000 miles away.
Chile is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries as the Nazaca tectonic plate plunges beneath the South American plate, pushed the towering Andes Cordillera to ever-higher altitudes.
