Dagenham UK Plans Big Film Studios Development Progress
Pictures of successful studios in the USA including action drama
Film makers are keen to have more space around London to create movies. Ridley Scott recently shot new sci-fi thriller The Martian starring Matt Damon in Budapest as facilities were better there.
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) has joined the fray in wanting Pinewood Studios to expand. Boyle may film the sequel to Prometheus overseas as the Studios in the UK as they stand today are booked up.
There are now big plans in the pipeline to rival Pinewood and Elstreee to bring Dagenham into the fray as a definite for big films and big producers. They hope to attract Hollywood and TV film dramas. Various films are already big with Dagenham including Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as Channel 4’s Humans. At present it is hosting New Blood a seven part BBC crime drama starring Anthony Horowitz.
Managing Director John Lewis of the SOG group which owns the site, is in on the plan to increase studio size giving production companies both full processing and full filming capabilities. He said, “The film industry and high-end television attracted £1.5 billion of production spend in the UK last year and there are fantastic opportunitites for more growth but we haven’t got the capacity to meet this demand”. His view is we could double investment to £3 billion over the next few years if the industry takes the opportunity to provide better for demand.
