England picked up 3-37 in the closing stages of the Second Test fourth day to leave New Zealand 224-7, 238 ahead with three wickets remaining.
Daryl Mitchell remains 32 not out, with only tail for company.
Earlier resuming at 573-5 England’s Joe Root was out for a majestic 176 dismissed by Trent Boult’s slower ball to cover point, which triggered a collapse of five wickets for 23, including Foakes being run out for 56 after a mix-up with Potts, as the home side were eventually dismissed for 539, a 14 runs a first-innings deficit. Trent Boult completes a five-wicket haul.
Tom Latham was bowled by Anderson, Conway (52) whose top-edged sweep proved his undoing, and Young 56 run out by Ollie Pope and Stokes built steadily.
