Delta airliner skids in the midst of heavy snow in New York City LaGuardia airport
A passenger airliner Delta MD-88 from Atlanta, has skidded off the runway and run past the airport perimeter fence at LaGuardia airport in New York City due to snow.
Emergency officials were called to the airport at about 11:00 local time (16:00 GMT) but no major injuries have been reported.
According to Delta Air Lines, passengers left the plane via aircraft slides and were being brought to the terminal by bus as heavy snow has been falling in New York since earlier morning.
The airport has been closed, and is expected to reopen at 19:00 local time, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says.
Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said the plane was apparently leaking fuel.
LaGuardia is already one of the most difficult airports to land due to its close proximity to three other busy airports.
