The USA are the first nation to win the women’s world cup three times winners in 2015 beating Japan 5-2 in a thrilling final.
Carli Lloyd completed the fastest hat trick in 16 minutes into the game against defending champions Japan.
Lauren Holiday scored after 14minutes, while Yugi Ogimi and Johnston own goal gave Japan a lifeline but Heath sealed with a goal in the 53rd minute to make it 5-2. Hope Solo won the tournaments Golden Glove award for stellar goal keeping efforts, Carli Lloyd won the Golden Ball award after tying with Germany’s Celia Sacic for overall lead in goals at six with all six coming in knock out rounds and 3 in the final. Lloyd became the first American to win the Golden ball since Carin Jennings won in 1991 the inaugural year of the tournament.
