England under Eoin Morgan secured a record victory in the first of five one-day internationals against New Zealand by the biggest margin

of 210 runs. England posted a mammoth total of 408, thanks to centuries from Joe Root hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes and Jos Butler 129 off 77

with 13 fours and 5 sixes and half centuries from Eoin Morgan 50 off 46, AU Rashid 69 off 50, before Steve Finn 35-4 and Adil Rashid 55-4

dismissed New Zealand for 198. England were 50-2, when Eoin Morgan’s 121 run partnership with Joe Root whose timing was flawless

through the covers anchored the innings. Jos Butler reached his century in 66 balls second fastest in one day history behind his own 61 balls

against Sri Lanka last year. Adil Rashid added a quick fire 69 form 50 with 7 fours and 2 sixes to achieve a record 7 wicket stand.

England attempted to rebuild, have left out a number of established players for the series against New Zealand.

James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ian Bell, Gary Ballance, Moeen Ali, Ravi Bopara and James Tredwell are all missing.

Instead, James Taylor, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Mark Wood and uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings will get a chance.

“I’ve got the squad that I’ve wanted,” said Morgan.

“The guys we have brought in do something different and we want that to continue.

“If they play as well as they have done in county cricket, things will be very exciting.”
