Ferry Capsized in China kills 65, 14 rescued and 385 still missing, worst disaster in 70 years
The toll from a ship The Eastern Star, that capsized on China’s Yangtze river has risen to 65, authorities said on Thursday. The ferry sank after about 9 pm when it began raining extremely hard, and the tornado hit and the wind was atrocious, on the evening of 1st June 2015.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has visited the accident site, 110 miles west of Hubei provincial capital of Wuhan.
This accident is China’s worst disaster in 70 years.
Over 400 people are still missing and another 39 bodies were recovered overnight, Xinhua news agency reported.
Only 14 survivors, including the captain, have been found since the ferry carrying 456 people capsized.
All remains of the huge vessel now is a small strip of its hull emerging from the muddy grey waters.
The rescuers cut a 55 cm by 60 cm rectangular hole on the bottom of the upturned ship on Wednesday night to give divers easier access to the hull.
The rescuers will continue to cut through the hull while the divers comb through the ship
